One of the most beautiful Bavarian Forest mountains is probably the Osser (1293 meters). It can boast two striking peaks. Parallel to the opposite Kaitersberg-Arbermassiv, it rises from the Künisches Gebirge in a certain extension of the Hoher Bogen, encloses the beautiful Lamer Winkel and, furthermore, passes as a border mountain to the Zwercheck.
If one drives from Bad Kötzting along the White Rain "into the Lam", it trots as a signpost high above the road. The bigger peak is hidden behind its little brother. The Großer Osser carries a rustic, managed mountain hut, which in turn is hidden behind the summit rock. The state border to the Czech Republic runs right next to the beer garden. Only a few minutes' walk from there is the pyramid-shaped Little Osser. From here you have a spectacular view down into the Lamer Winkel, to the Arber, the Hoher Bogen and all the other Bavarian Forest mountains. The whole thing is repeated if you keep the descent over the Osserwiesen. Here, in summer, you can often watch paragliders gliding gently towards the earth.
A popular starting point is the parking lot on the Ossersattel. You can reach it via Lam and further via Lambach. But also from Lam itself, from Lohberg and from the Scheibm parking lot, wonderful hiking trails lead up to Osser.
