The Hohenbogen (our local mountain)

Hiking in the Bavarian Forest

The Hohe Bogen is a very long, almost straight mountain ridge along the Czech border. On the backside you find the villages Eschlkam and the famous Neukirchen b. Hl. Blut with its famous pilgrimage church. In the northwest it rises from the Further depression. Right on the first edge, a steel finger rises into the sky; a transmission mast of the Bavarian Broadcasting Company. Here on the castle stable is said to have been a castle complex. A little further to the right of here, several hiking trails run in different directions. Even further to the right you can climb two viewing platforms. In the times of the Iron Curtain, German and French soldiers listened over to the Czech Republic etc.

A chairlift on the Neukirchen side takes hikers or skiers from the valley up to the top station. The highest point of the mountain range is 1079 meters. In winter the downhill run is considered a delicacy for ski enthusiasts.

In the mountain house and the restaurant Schönblick you can enjoy yourself in summer and winter.

The Hohe Bogen can be hiked from all sides. Hiking trails lead from Neukirchen b. Hl. Blut, from Hohenwart, Rimbach and Mais to the popular Tausender, which by the way got its name from the Counts of Bogen.
